Thirty-Five Years of God's Faithfulness

“God is faithful, by whom you were called into the fellowship of His Son Jesus Christ our Lord” (1 Corinthians 1:9).

Dear Praying Friends:

In 1990, after returning from Taiwan, Dori and I started China Institute as a ministry to Chinese scholars and their families at the University of Virginia.

Since then, God has been pleased to grow China Institute in ways we could not then have imagined. For example, by his grace:

From 1990 to 2015 he brought hundreds of Chinese students, scholars, and their families into our home and into meetings held by the Chinese Bible Study, Chinese Christian Fellowship, and International Christian Fellowship.
One hundred people received baptism after careful examination.
We currently have, besides Dori and me, five China Institute Partners in North America, Taiwan, and England, assisted by a bookkeeper and three editorial helpers, and governed by a wise and dedicated Board of Directors.
Our website, reachingchineseworldwide.org, features several thousand pages of resources of various kinds, including book reviews, articles, and books available as free downloadable PDF files.
We have produced nine books in English and a dozen volumes in Chinese, written or edited by me and translated by Chinese Christians.
Alone or with Dori, I have traveled to Taiwan more than two dozen times, as well as to North America and England, to teach, preach, and visit our friends, and I am planning to visit Taiwan again this spring, God willing. Both of us have also gone to China about ten times.

In 2005, Dr. Carol Lee Hamrin and I founded Global China Center as an outreach to Chinese scholars who are studying Christianity.

Again, the Lord has kindly blessed this initiative with growth:

We have seven Global China Center Associates (in addition to me).
Our website has hundreds of pages of book reviews and articles.
Studies in Chinese Christianity, co-edited by Dr. Hamrin and me, offers twenty volumes dealing with Christianity in China, both past and present. One website says that it “It features works of substantial scholarship, including historical and sociological studies and theological reflection, and translations of major Chinese works” (www.storytel.com/tv/series/studies-in-chinese-christianity).
The online Biographical Dictionary of Chinese Christianity (www.bdcconline.net) has hundreds of entries, in English and Chinese, telling the stories of outstanding missionaries and Chinese Christians. Many, including all those by our Chinese editor, Dr. Yading Li, are authoritative short biographies. The BDCC is a unique resource for those interested in God’s work among the Chinese and has had more than two million unique visitors. New articles are being added constantly.
From 2000 to 2015, God enabled several of our associates, including me, to lecture in Chinese universities. We have also presented papers at conferences and published articles in academic journals. Several have published books with top-rated academic publishers.

All of us maintain connections with our Chinese friends around the world.
