Dori and I just returned from a fascinating trip to China. Our minds are brimming with impressions from a wide spectrum of sights, sounds, and smells.

As I said in the previous letter, it seems to many that both Chinese Christians and those seeking to serve them need to be alert to both theology and culture.

Over the past four years, I have traveled much more than I did before. Teaching short seminary courses, preaching in Chinese churches, visiting friends; attending conferences and special briefings...

No one ever said our life was boring. No, it’s full of challenges and blessings of all sorts.

As we look back over the past six months, we cannot help but thank God for His faithfulness to us, and for your prayers, which He has used to accomplish what we could not.

The growing number of Chinese scholars who are open to Christianity represents a fertile field for effective Christian witness.

Though the main focus of our ministry is the huge number of people living in the People’s Republic of China, we are also committed to reaching Chinese elsewhere, including America, Europe, and Taiwan.

Thanksgiving Day afforded me time to reflect upon the last eleven months and bring you up to date at the same time.

Slowly, I am beginning to see another way to reach Chinese, both Christian and pre-Christians, with God’s love and truth: Listening.

While in Taiwan, I spoke with a woman who serves as a missionary in the Middle East. As she explained to me her understanding of her basic mission, I knew immediately that I wanted to make it my own as well.
